Topic: Creating employment opportunities for youth entering the labor
market
Every day the youth employment crisis grows around the world. This
topic is about young people needing jobs for different kind of reasons like
needing money, not having parents of someone to maintain them, etc. The problem
is very common worldwide since they are not so many opportunities of
employments for young people. ECOSOC estimated 191 million unemployed people in
2004, and 86 million are young ones between 15 and 24 years. Today, countries
are trying to create more opportunities of jobs to young people, but they are
failing. The problem of why the employment for young people is rising is
because of the number of kids entering labor markets yearly, few job
opportunities and especially on poor and conflict-countries, and in the
countries with low education to kids. An organization that is helping youths
find employments is the global youth peace submit, which assigns them some jobs
and are for people from 13 to 18 years old, it’s global. Another one is the
young artist in service program, which helps young people interested in art
develop their skills to have job opportunities, it’s global.
Italy
has one of the “worst” labor markets in Europe, and this is a fact proved by
analysts and labor experts. Italy and other European states have the highest rate
of long-term unemployment, the highest youth unemployment rate, the lowest
participation rate of women and older workers, and the lowest employment rate. In
Italy this problem still existed before the crisis, but now it became worse.
Italy is a country where older people are more important and respected than
young ones, so this is a major reason of the unemployment for youths. It’s not
all the fault of lack of education in Italy but too because they have very few
jobs, and the jobs they have are very important and for people who studied a
lot. Einar Bull, an Italy ambassador said: "There is no age limit in politics and organizational
life for instance. People don't reach senior positions until pretty late in
life, and young people can't get access to such positions at all. The education
system is changing, but has yet to take shape. The labor market is
characterized by many temporary jobs."
My
solutions to these problems are based on the same ones for every country for
having the same results. For all my solutions, employers should consider the
abilities of young people and not unemployment them because of their age. Solutions
could be to split the work of one job in many different jobs, for creating more
employments. Another solution could be that the ECOSOC agencies in charge of
this topic tell all the country government’s new ideas of jobs and for them to establish
them to have more opportunities. Something that could help is that every
country should create campaigns for being against discrimination to youths and
for more opportunities for them to have employments in the labor market. If all
the countries follow these solutions, the world would change and young people
will have more opportunities of jobs and will maintain their needs.
This is my position paper topic B from United Nations. My country was Italy and it had many about my topic so I researched and learned about it.
